AN ODE TO WORKING OUT
Working out puts my mind at ease, it makes me feel calm and energized at the same time, happily exhausted; it gives me a break in days otherwise directed by to-do-lists, it makes my thoughts stop tripping over themselves, makes me focus only on whatever task is at hand; moving my legs, pushing weights with my hands; working out makes me strong, mentally and physically, it makes my legs strong to run from danger or towards my goals, it keeps me healthy, fit and in shape, it makes my heart race, not from nervousness or drinking too much coffee, but from moving, running, jumping, it pushes me to my limits and makes me realize how much I can achieve if I only put my mind to it, it makes me value my body so much more, makes me stop thinking that I don't look like XYZ on the cover of Vogue and instead appreciate how strong I am and how much my body can do; it makes me connect with other people; appreciate the hard work of others. It's work and on some days it is the hardest work of the day, and I'm incredibly grateful for having a healthy body that allows me all of this. I'm stronger in so many ways thanks to working out.
