I can't even tell you how much I love this overall. But I'll try. I have been looking for the perfect denim overall for ages and I'm so happy I finally found my perfect piece. Overalls are comfortable, playful and a little eccentric (if you wear them over the age of 5, that is) and that is a combination I could never say no to. Did I mention comfortable? It's a great staple piece to have in your closet for when you can't be bothered to come up with a new style. Just throw on a shirt, your overall and flats or sneakers - minimal effort for maximum effect. Plus, overalls never really went out of fashion and you can be sure that the trend comes back in regular cycles. Why? Comfy!
Apart from that, jeans fabric is such a great material. Historically speaking, jeans may be the most culturally rich piece of clothing of the Western world, at least among those still relevant today. Originally created in Genoa, north-western Italy, jeans were designed to be resistant and durable manufacturing pants. Actually, the city's name in French "Gênes" is commonly believed to have morphed into the English word "jeans". Likewise, "denim" originates in "de Nîmes", meaning "from Nîmes" - a French city that also produced the fabric. I'm sure Levi Strauss & Co - whose founder patented jeans in the 19th century in the USA - would not like to hear any of that. But while he didn't technically invent the concept (as the brand likes to claim), he sure brought "blue jeans" to fame. Eternal, worldwide fame.
And so blue jeans were the worker's uniform of miners dreaming of making a fortune during the Gold Rush; they reached cult status in the West when James Dean wore them in "Rebel without a cause" and Marilyn Monroe in "Misfits", eventually becoming the clothing of choice for young people dreaming to be a little like the edgy movie stars they saw on TV. What's most fascinating about this indigo piece of clothing is that it is still and to this day among the most relevant fashion items. Regardless of age and gender, everyone wears jeans and there's an astonishing variety of different cuts and colors. Purely for style reasons, of course. Today, there is no longer any sociopolitical meaning attached to a pair of jeans. But some decades back, dreams were made of denim. ♡
I hope you guys love my denim overall as much as I do. I paired it with a plain white t-shirt and my favorite sandals in the world that I got on holiday in Italy as a teenager. Best investment ever. If you want to check out my overall, you can find a link at the bottom of this post.
Until next time!
P.S.: If you thought that fashion was vapid and/or superficial, you are welcome my friend.
