Calf-length cardigans are the holy grail in the list of statement items that a girl needs. While cardigans are great in any length, calf-length ones are extra special. They're extraordinary and upgrade any outfit, but they're not too crazy. They couldn't be any more comfortable, but they still look chic. I just love them. So, naturally, I had to benefit from the current kimono-inspired cardigan trend and got my hands on a really pretty one by Zara. That being said, a kimono is actually a traditional Japanese robe, deeply connected to the rich cultural history of Japan and in its original form, its material, pattern and the way it is worn carries lots of different messages. Also, a traditional kimono is an elaborate piece of art. The original ones used to be so delicate that they had to be taken apart(!) for washing and then re-sewn. I'm not sure if the fast-fashion labels considered any of this (certainly not), but they make an iconic and incredibly beautiful garment more known to the world, so I'm not complaining.
Long story short, while it can be a challenge to come up with an outfit featuring a kimono, I have put together three different styles, that can be easily recreated with basics you probably have at home. Scroll on to see them:
1. Matching colors
Stick to your kimono's theme by pairing it with clothes in the same colors as its pattern. This is actually a general suggestion for looking well put together, except if you're into wild pattern and color mixtures - then more power to you! In general, however, picking up the colors of the "main" piece of clothing you are wearing and repeating them in the rest of your clothes and accessories is often a great way to create an understated, elegant look.
2. Denim and basics
A girl can never have too many basics. The thing is, there are basics and basics. The first kind leave you unimpressed, but the second kind are the ones that flawlessly fit, compliment your figure and can be combined with a myriad of different outfits. They potentially last forever because they're so versatile. That's the one you need to be on the hunt for, girls. My pink BikBok top and those light-blue Mango jeans are in that category for sure. Combine them with a pair of sandals and voilà - you're done.
3. All black and heels
If you know me at all, this does not need any explanation. Black looks great on literally everyone and is perfect for every occasion (...except European weddings). It is also the color that's easiest to combine and you cannot really go wrong with an all-black outfit. It will always look elegant, sophisticated, timeless. I'll stop the rapture, you get my point.
Thank you & stay awesome ♡
